Jim Alseth, a father in the tribe

“Son or Daughter of the Most High God, Intercessors of the Throne of the King, I bless you in these days to be fully released in to your design and calling, to throw aside all hesitancy and doubt about your motives and design, and to know this is the hour you were made for. You, who know Him like the one who laid his ear at His breast, whose word is shut up in your bones like a burning fire, who have walked with Him through the very fires of the enemy’s wrath, who know Him so well you cannot BUT “coach” the Most High God who offered to make a nation out of you to replace the nation of Israel—and prevailed, I bless you to be released in the kairos timing to move heaven and earth in partnership with the King in these days. Your time is at hand. I bless you mighty one, in the glorious Name of our Victor and King, Jesus the Christ of Nazareth, whose robe is dipped in blood, and out of whose mouth is a sharp, doubled-edged sword. Amen and amen.”

Deine Gaben entsprechen exakt all Deinen Herausforderungen,

denen Du in Deinem Leben begegnen wirst!

Dazu gibt es keine Ausnahmen!

Dein gesamtes Sein in Geist, Seele und Leib wurde mit goldgewirkten Fäden kunstvoll in Deiner Mutter Leib gewebt (Ps 139,15).

Du bist erstaunlich und wunderbar gemacht;

diese Schönheit ist immer und überall zu sehen!

Geist des geliebten Königskindes: sei gestärkt, sei gesegnet in Deinem einzigartigen, Gott gegebenen Design!

Mercy Blessing – Maryalice Harris

One of the things Jesus wrote to the Mercy church at Laodicea has always seemed abrupt to me:

“Those I love, I rebuke and discipline; so be zealous and change your heart.” (Rev 3:19)

At this point Jesus has already told the church they are lukewarm and about to be vomited out of his mouth, and that they are, “miserable, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked.” So why does a verse about rebuke and discipline stand out?

I think one of the reasons it stands out to me is that up until that verse Jesus is talking about the church, but in Revelation 3:19 he starts to talk about himself. And the Greek word for love that Jesus uses to express his feelings is phileo – the love indicating intimate friendship. Some translators have tried to take this into account:

“When people are my friends, I tell them when they’re in the wrong, and I punish them for it; so stir up your spirits and repent!” (NTE, KNT)

Well that just sounds gross! That’s not a picture of healthy, intimate friendship at all. Searching for more insight, my nerdy brain plugged Revelation 3:19 into biblegateway.com and scanned it in sixty translations. I’m in awe at how many translators struggled both with stating what Jesus is saying his responsibility is (love, rebuke, discipline) and stating what the church’s responsibility is (be zealous, change your heart). One version made me laugh out loud:

“I tell off and punish the people I love, so get busy and stop doing wrong.” (WE)

What a crazy, dysfunctional portrait of intimacy! Could it possibly be said any more poorly? Yikes!

Going back to the first, most literal translation of Rev. 3:19, I decided to look up the Greek words. I wanted to see if there was any more meaning I could wring out of the verse (all definitions taken from HELPS Word-studies via Biblehub.com).

REBUKE (G1651), properly, means to convince with solid, compelling evidence.

DISCIPLINE (G3811), refers to the proper and intentional development of a child in order to develop maturity and allow them to realize their full potential.

Let’s stop right there and see if we can come up with our own version of the first half of this verse. How’s this:

“Because you are my intimate friend, I will bring solid, compelling evidence to bear of where you are totally out of line in this relationship. I will hold you accountable to the fair boundaries of friendship that we have already established. And I will invite you into even closer bonds of intimacy in order to develop your full potential in my Kingdom.”

Jesus said that he desired that the result of his rebuke and discipline to be an outpouring of zeal and repentance on our part.

ZEAL (G2206), properly, means to bubble over because it has become so hot; to be deeply committed to something, with the implication of committed desire; to be earnest, to set one’s heart on, to be completely intent upon.

Wow! That definition of a zeal certainly sounds like a response to intimacy – a response to the deeply moving, deeply passionate evidence of a life-long friend with our best interests at heart.

So how do we enter into the presence of our Savior for this marvelous kind of rebuke and discipline? How do we even begin to reinstate our intimacy with Jesus after committing the thoughts and deeds that have left us pitiful, poor, blind, and naked?

It’s so easy. Jesus tells us exactly what to do in the following verse:

“Look! I am standing here, knocking at the door. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to them and eat with them, and they with me.” (Rev. 3:20)

Friends, this is my blessing for you:

  • I bless you with seeing yourself as you really Not as you want to be, but your true spiritual state.

  • I bless you with hearing the voice of your dearest friend Jesus, inviting you to further intimacy – because as many doors as you have already opened to him, he’s always waiting, grinning with anticipation of dining with you again, for the next time you enter his presence to feast with him together in intimacy.

  • I bless you with entering into that Presence in whatever state you are in, as wretched or broken, joyous or peaceful, whatever state – I bless you with just opening the door. Because as serious as being “miserable, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked” is, Jesus can work with that – if we will just get ourselves into his presence.

  • I bless you with feeling the love in any rebuke he has for you. Feeling the hope he has for you in any rebuke he gives. Seeing the joy of the day that he created you in his eyes as he exposes you to the solid, compelling evidence of any wretched state that he means to take through the refining fire of his discipline.

  • I bless you with feeling the immense pleasure that Jesus feels when, after knocking at your door, he hears you approaching the other side. When he hears your hand on the handle, and the knob turning – when he sees the face of his beloved friend peering back at him through the opening. I bless you with feeling the pleasure of Jesus in seeing YOU open the door to him and inviting him in… and at the same time Jesus is gathering you up and taking you behind the veil to feast at his richly appointed table. I bless you with feeling the deep pleasure in this moment – to experience these things as color, light, movement, and sound in your Mercy portion as you synchronize with God’s spirit!

  • I bless your Mercy portion with excellence in receiving these things from Jesus’s own Spirit into your spirit.
